Records are YAML files in git, changed by pull request. A partial contribution helps: one verified signature, the layout of a header, a tool that opens the format.

Improve a record

Every format page has an Improve this record button: it opens the curated file on GitHub (or a new one that overrides the imported data). The schema is schema/format.schema.json.

Claim a format

Starting to document a format? Add a claim (who, contact, scope, until when) so others coordinate with you, through the MCP server's claim_format or by hand in the YAML. Claims expire after at most 90 days.

Fix imported data

Data imported from PRONOM, Wikidata or the converters is refreshed weekly: fix it upstream (Wikidata is the easiest), or override it in a curated record.
